Which splash screen? I don't recall there being a kernel splash screen in RH9, so are you referring to the GNOME splash screen? Or using kde?

Moved: This thread is more suitable in Linux-Software and has been moved accordingly to help your thread/question get the exposure it deserves.

Run KDE COntrol Centre, then choose 'Look N Feel' and 'Splash screen'.

That was not an option in the KDE version from the REDHAT 9 release. There might be a tool you can download to add this to that release. But this how I did it with that version.

The way I did it
1. go into /home/username/.kde/share/apps
2. mkdir ksplash
3. cd to ksplash
4. mkdir pics
5. cd pics
6. copy the images from what ever splash you want here.
7. Logout and back in.

This should work if I remember right.

Another option is upgrade to KDE 3.3.1 and it has the ability to select the splash screen like in the above replys. If you upgrade to KDE 3.3.1 then at /home/username/.kde/share/apps/ksplash you will mkdir Themes. There is where you will copy a folder of the new splash with an theme.rc file in it. Then you can select it from the Control Center/ Apper****/Splash. You need to have all your splash screen choices in there before open the Control Center or it will not show them.

Did a quick search and found this. Never seen or tried it.

wizard69, it appears you are using Gnome not KDE (the list of options that you give is exactly the same as my list, in gnome). Gnome is also the default in RH9 (although confusingly its made to look a bit like kde!)

Unfortunately I haven't been able to find the splash screen changing option (I am looking for it at the moment!)

Can anyone help?

to change gnome's splash screen you have go to menu->System Tools->Configuration Editor, edit /apps/gnome-session/options/splash_screen key and make it point out to your favorite image file.

Also, the How-to in didnīt worked for me,
So, if it doesnīt work, donīt uncompress the ksplash.
Just a little tip.
