How Do Install The Kernel


I KNOW where to get the kernel i want 2.6 or something dl's np. I dont know how to install it, compile, do anything lol How do i get the kernel installed? Do I even need to cvompile it? Can I get one thats already compiled? Ive used lots of linux before just never installed the kernel. \\
