How do I restore keyboard service
 

I have a Logitech G510s Gaming keyboard, and use gnome15 to access its extra keys and macro facilities. This works fine with KDE.

I start the desktop with startx. When I log out of it the driver, which needs dbus, is terminated and I get no response from the keyboard. lsusb shows the keyboard is connected. In order to continue using it I need to unplug and plug it in again, at which time it appears as a normal keyboard.

Is it possible to automatically start a keyboard driver when startx exits?
I'm using Arch.

I had an issue like that in avlinux for ps2 keyboard and mouse. I copied some udev and X stuff over from debian wheezy (avlinux was based on squeeze at the time). And it started working. Seems like /lib/udev/keymaps and something from a subdirectory of /etc/X11/X???*. It was a while ago, but a place to start looking. Try a few other distros and see if they have the same issue.

The symptoms for me at the time was that the ps2 keyboard and mouse were not recognized at all, and USB keyboard and mouse only worked if plugged in AFTER X was started. The cross polination from another distro and maybe some other stuff made it work as expected. The keyboard always worked fine in console mode without X. My fiddling eventually got it to work without hotplugging, although I'm not sure which change made it work.

Various programs like xinput and lsinput from packages xinput and input-utils can help diagnose more specifically your hardware. Debian specific package names, but a place to start looking at least.
