Question How do I reset username/password in phpMyAdmin?

I'm running Ubuntu 9.10 and have installed LAMP. However, whenever I try logging into phpMyAdmin, it rejects any login/password combination I can think of. I don't recall setting up a user/password for phpMyAdmin.

I don't know if this would work, but should I delete htpasswd.setup and recreate htpasswd?

What sort of authentication are you using? HTTP Basic / Digest? Something else?

If you're unsure, post the Directory (or Virtualhost) section of your httpd.conf related to phpMyAdmin.

I'm assuming it's basic. The httpd.conf file is empty.

I can access the websites on the server and use the command line for MySQL, but just can't get into phpMyAdmin.

You're using Ubuntu. I forgot what they renamed their Apache config file to.

In any case, have you run the setup yet? If not, you'll need to.

I assumed (I'm good at assumptions) that the LAMP setup took care of that, but I suspect you're right. It's the MySQL username/password it needs, so I'll follow that link you gave and have another go at it this weekend.

Turns out it needed 'root' as the username. I thought I'd chosen a different name.

Thanks for your help, anomie.
