How do I mount my NTFS WinXP partition on Linux?
 

I am a Linux newbie, first time with Red Hat 8.0. Is there anyway to mount my NTFS Windows XP partition in Linux in the terminal?

To read, or write to it too?

I want to be able to read and write. I'm having trouble accessing Windows, and I want to be able to burn all my data on that partition to a cd-r so when I reinstall Windows XP, I will have all that information.

You won't be able to write to it - for the good reason that write support is incomplete and can cause data corruption, read support in Red Hat can be enabled by following the instructions here, if you need to swap data between XP and linux then the safest way is to create a small fat32 partition, both XP and linux can read and write to fat32.

it is not good to write to a ntfs partion you can but there is a risk to damege the partion you can always use another partion for data exchange

Hey everyone, thanks for your responses. My Windows partition is really messed up, and there is now way to access it except from Linux or Knoppix, I need to be able to get those files off, on cd-r's preferably so I can back things up and reinstall windows. Thanks for your help.

Learn to recompile the kernel, and NTFS support becomes a breeze..
