How do I login as root so I can run guarddog?
When I try to run guarddog in console, I cannot start it with root priveledges so I cannot make any changes.
Other than sudo, how can I start guarddog?
This is only under Windowmaker, in KDE i use the graphics icon and it works.
Thank you.

Can you not log in to your GUI as root?
In any event, you can always run it from the command line...two ways;
1 sudo command
2 su, password, command

I can, but only in KDE, not windowmaker. I can start guarddog`s gui in windowmaker but I do not have root priveledges.
I dont know how to setup sudo and I have not tried suggestion number 2. Ill give that a try. Thanks.

If you have KDE installed, you can also start a terminal (even in windowmaker) and do "kdesu nameOfGuarddogGui", enter the root password and the gui should run. It could be a good idea if you figured out how to run services from the command line without a GUI just in case your gui ever gives you problems.

Well, guarddog starts up as user bu without priveledges of course, but does not start up at all when logged in as root. I have tried to find the executable but cannot.
To start guarddog I simply type its name, why would it start as a user but not for root?

The kdesu thing seems to have worked but when I quite guarddog I got this message in the console.....
Session management: could not open network socket.
Is that something to worry about?

I am not sure. Enter the error message on google and see if there are any discussions about this on other sites.
