How do I log into the GUI in Mandrake 10.1?

New to linux here, just installed Mandrake 10.1. I've got the log in screen and can log it, but it just puts me back at the command prompt with my user name. How do I get into the actual GUI or interface of Linux? Thanks!

What is your current runlevel? You can see it with this command:
# grep initdefault /etc/inittab

If it is not 5, then change this file so that the default runlevel is 5. Before doing that, make sure your X server is running OK. You can check this with the "startx" command, that should get you into a graphical session.

Yves.
