How do I lock GUi as root?

Normally, root can't lock screen.
I install a xlock driver to my redhat9(kernel:2.4.20.-8)
What puzzled me is that I only use xlock in terminal,when I button start=>lock screen,It still didn't work.
who can help me?

1) that's a bad idea. -- walking away from a machine with root logged in unzips the fly -- even if it is 'locked', there are ways around that.

2) why would you run that long as root anyways, that's another bad idea... you should use an unprivlidged user for normal tasks.

you might not agree with this because, maybe you live alone, and nobody ever visits, or anybody else there fears dismemberment if they look at your PC, but the fact is these security restraints are built into your RedHat box.
