how do i install VLV Player? I downloaded it from the official videolan website

i just want to install vlc player. I have the tar.gz file on my computer and its exactly 17.5MB. How do i install it? Im using kubuntu 12.04.1

You can install it using the package manager that comes with Kubuntu. Open the package manager and search for VLC. You may need to update your software sources to include Canonical Partners. It is always best and easiest to use the packages built for your distribution.
