How do I install Planet CCRMA on my FC 4 machine?
 
I haev tried to go aroud he Planet CCRMA site but I am afraid that a lot of the laguage is incomprehensible to me.
I am new to Linux, as you probably guessed.

I would like to install planet ccrma so that I can then use Rosegarden , audacity and the other Linux tools for music.

I have tried to install the audio apps but get the following response.

root@localhost lovingmurx]# apt-get install planetccrma-audioapps
Reading Package Lists... Done
Building Dependency Tree... Done
E: Couldn't find package planetccrma-audioapps

Can anyone help?

As far as I know CCRMA hasn't been released for FC4 yet. The CCRMA website informs that:

Fedora Core 4 status update (June 25 2005): rebuilding Planet CCRMA
 for Fedora Core 4 has started. While this is not yet documented in the web
pages there are experimental kernels with Ingo Molnar's patches and many
audio packages in the repositories. If you want to try things out use the same
url's that you used with Fedora Core 3 and change the ``3'' to ``4''. Details on
the rebuild are being posted to the mailing list. Help is appreciated as some
programs do not build with the new gcc4.
You don't need CCRMA to use audacity though, that is, if you want to use it to work with existing sound files. recording is of course a different story.

Spooon i read the section that you refered me and followed the instructions but I get the above response ie
E: Couldn't find package planetccrma-audioapps

Have I done something wrong?

Linmix, I am hoping to start using the various linux audio applications. I was hoping to start with audaciy as a taster and then move on the using rosegarden. I must say that I am very much a newbie to linux.

I use audacity regularly to cut large mp3 files into manageable pieces, to filter out noise and for cut and paste work.

Make sure you get the livna rpm so you can use mp3. Even so it'll ask you where the lame lib is located, but will ask you to find it opening the directory you should have it installed to anyway.

Some days ago i also posted a 'review' of a great audio script to convert sound files from one extention type to another or to a different quality in mp3.

I'm looking forward to installing CCRMA myself, but will wait a bit till everything is ready for FC4
