How do I install Linux XP 2006?

I just purchased Linux XP 2006 Bootable Installation CD from eBay. It didn't come with any instructions, so I was wondering if you kind folks could help me along. I bought it for my Mother-in-Law's computer as she has Windows ME on it and it sucks! I was told Linux is way better. If I wipe her hard drive and prepare it for a new install, does this cd just install itself like Windows does initially? Or is Linux more complicated to install? Some pointers would be great gang!

Thanks!

Jeff

LoL... That's funny. I doubt your mother-in-law will have a clue whats going on after you've installed it (not to insult her intelligence) but its totally different to Windows and "I was told Linux is way better" is not a valid reason to scrap Windows on someone else's PC.

Unless you've already wiped the drive, try some of these live cds first..

IF your a newbie to linux, I recommend simplymepis. It's a live cd that can be installed also. After it boots into KDE you see an icon on the desktop that says install me, click on it, and follow the prompts. It will copy the cd to the HD and you'll have a full linux install in 30 minutes or less.. Knoppix is also a nice live cd, both of which are debian based.
