How do i in XMMS play other formats than mp3 in url?

Hi!

This is the problem. If i use a url with a adress to a .mod .sid or .xm or any other format that my xmms-plugins support, i just get trouble. The file do not play and this happens:

** CRITICAL **: udp_establish_listener(): unable to create socket
bash: syntax error near unexpected token `('

Why can i play this .mp3:
http://truemetal.org/manillaroad/crystalmed.mp3

But not this .sid?
http://gallium.prg.dtu.dk/HVSC/C64Mu...Cyberspace.sid

How can i make xmms accept to open files that ends with .xm, .sid and so on?
It would really mean a lot to me if anyone would like to tell something about this.

i noticed this problem
The problem is due to the fact that the HTTP retrivial is handled not from xmms core but from Input plugin. The only plugins that i have seen supports the streams are mpeg (mp3) and Vorbis(ogg).

The solution is sad..... you can download the sid files in a temp directory and then play them.
if you would use this for automate the listening of songs from a webserver (click on a link and xmms starts plaing) the solution is easy: you make a little script that make a wget, xmms, rm -f
Of course...if you use knoppix from a live cd isn't so useful because you had to rewrite this script e reconfigure your browser everytime you reboot the box

Yes, that was actually just what i had in mind. I figured out that i had to use wget when i looked in a script in Damn Small Linux. The problem is that i am to much of a newbie to be able to make the little script work. If anyone could give me some hints or ideas i´ ll try it at once. During the meantime i´ll continue to google around a bit for a possible solution. I wonder if the links could be integrated in a VERY simple html-file. Well i´ll give it a shot, any help would as i just said be enormously appriciated offcourse.

Have you tried installing the .sid and .xm plugins for xmms? Not many people know that the plugins for those formats are available over at xmms.org . Also, try changing your MiME type to handle .xm and .sid files with XMMS.
