how do i hack in to ROOT?
 

we made a password for root right? well we've forgotten the password and we can't do any administrative tasks.:doh: we've tried our password but it didn't work:banghead: so we asked, and somebody said something about sudo, i thought it answered everything:D, just to find out that typing sudo does not work:banghead:!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!HELP!

In ubuntu root passwd = user passwd, since you have to use sudo and you can't login directly as root.

To reset it, do a "chroot" from a live-cd to your main installation and use "passwd" to change the password.

please specify which distro you are using.

Just boot from a live CD, mount the / partion and removed the password field "x" in /etc/passwd file for root. You can go inside without a passwd and once loged in as root change the passwd and restore the original configuration.
