Question How do I find projects looking for help?

I am a programmer that is looking for a project to get involved in. Is the any central place to go and find projects that are looking for assistance?
I know I can browse around Sourceforge or Freshmeat, but it would be nice if there was an easy place to find people looking for help.

Hi -

I saw your header line, and I was about to reply "Sourceforge" and "Freshmeat" - but you already know that ;-)

Basically, *any* active project could probably use your help in *some* capacity.

If there's any project you're particularly interested in, or feel especially passionate about ... join that project's "dev" discussion group, listen in on the postings for awhile ... and offer to help.

Or browse Sourceforge and Freshmeat, and scan the "help wanted" posting of any project that strikes your fancy.

Good luck - and have fun!

Unless your looking for a paid postition, any opensource project is willing to accept the help of volunteer programmers. I'd first pick a language I like, C++, python, etc. Than I'd pick something that interests me. If the boot sequence dosen't, I wouldn't work on GRUB or LILO. On the other hand if desklets excite you and your into python try aDesklets or gDesklets. As cliche as it sounds the world is open to you (no pun intended). Pick something you like and go with it.
