How do I export PDF from Lyx?

Hi everyone,

After a difficult installation process of LyX (one problem after the other), I now have a problem exporting PDF files from LyX.
The extended features manual says you can export the following way:

file > export > PDF

In my version of LyX though, there's no PDF option after export, just the option to export text en LaTeX files.

What should I do?

Maybe this will help:

good luck,

I'm a real newbie,

isn't there a possibility to get the option PDF after export?

ok, I know i need pdflatex, this is included in tetex. But if I try to install tetex I get this:

error: failed dependencies:
dialog is needed by tetex-1.0.7-47
ed is needed by tetex-1.0.7-47

Installing dialog I get this:

error: failed dependencies:
libc.so.6(GLIBC_2.3) is needed by dialog-0.9b-20020814.2

Installing glibc I get:

error: failed dependencies:
glibc-common = 2.3.2-4.80.6 is needed by glibc-2.3.2-4.80.6
glibc > 2.2.5 conflicts with glibc-common-2.2.5-34

Installing glibc-common I get:

glibc < 2.3.2 conflicts with glibc-common-2.3.2-4.80.6

What can I do?

Welcome to depndency hell. I don't know a lot about lyx but there is an application that will automatically solve the dependencies for you. It's called "apt". Check out this site: http://apt4rpm.sourceforge.net/. It should explain most things to you. It may take a little setting up because red hat isn't designed to use it but once it's up and running, it's a killer app. Each day I thank whoever is listening that I use Debian.

Thanx

Already have had a lot of problems with dependencies, right now I'll try anything...

I fixed the PDF problem, by the way... Everyone helping me thank you for your time.

Lyx problems and dependancies

ONE thing you have to get accustomed to with Linux is dependencies.
It is easier to resolve than it first seems in fact all it needs is to
stop installing as soon as you get a dependency message.
write down exactly what the dependencies are, as many as are given.
Now go google search for those dependencies.
gather them on your desktop or somewhere untill you have them all downloaded.
Install them
expect to get more dependency problems, just do it again write down what is wanted
search with google, download and install.watch out ver version numbers, wrong version often does not fix things.
It just takes lots of work.
Sometimes you will find there are some things that seem just unavailable. That happens when they are part of a bigger package of things.
Then you have to spend some time finding out what contains the thing you are after and get that package and install it.
It is a bind but it is great when you finally have it running.
I run SUSE linux and the YAST installation system that SUSE uses will usually report all the dependencies at one go. (But not always)
