How do I downgrade safely back to Gutsy Gibbon from Hearty Heron?

Hello,

Thanks for reading this.

I've upgraded from GG to HH recently and lost my internet connections. I've spent two evenings after work and most of the weekend trying to get it back. I've been fighting to make my laptop's Broadcom 4306 internal wifi chip work; I've lost my external USB wifi too; I never was able to get the built-in RealTech ethernet card to work, even in GG.

So, I want to try to go back to GG until more bugs are shaken out of HH.

QUESTION: I am wondering what the simplest way of doing this would be without giving up my data. My DVD burner doesn't work anymore anyway, and I'm not motivated to seek some other backup means right now; I'll just take my chances. Incidentally, I do have an installation DVD for GG.

Thanks

Les

During the beta for Hardy I re-installed Gutsy back over the top, and everything worked fine.
*Caveat:* you need to have /home mounted on a separate partition, and use the same username (and password) on the re-install.

As usual, "all care, no responsibility".
