I've got an IBM Intellistation with a USB device attached. The device is my MS Pocket PC SmartPhone (don't worry I'm not trying to use it with Linux) and every time I have the Smartphone in the cradle and RH9 boots up, or when RH9 is running and I put the phone in the cradle the phone immediately locks up.

What I want to know is how do I get RH9 to stop trying to communicate with the USB devices? I don't need any USB connectivity in RH9.

I know I can disable it in the BIOS but I boot into XP a couple of times a day to synchronise and update the Smartphone so I don't really want to have to go in and out of the BIOS every time.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Sounds like you may just have a hotplug issue. The easiest way would be to look into where hotplug is started and, well, not have it start It's not very elegant, but it should do the trick.

You could also play with the hotplug agents and make sure that your phone/USB doesn't initiate any attempts at module/application loading.

If you could include some of your dmesg output when this error happens then someone may be able to offer a more direct solution.
