How do I disable daylight savings time transition?

I live in the United States CST timezone, and I've decided not to switch to daylight savings time this year. My problem is that I don't know how to stop Linux from switching the timezone for me. I run Gentoo, Debian, and Slackware. Does anyone know a clean way to stop any or all of these distributions from switching to Daylight Savings Time come next Sunday? I'm okay with editing config files and crontabs if that is the best way to do this.

Thanks in advance.

Since you will not be following your local time zone, you need to create your own personal time zone file. There are instructions in this post.

Thanks, macemoneta. Typing the following commands as root solved the problem:

cd /etc
rm localtime
ln -s /usr/share/zoneinfo/Etc/GMT+6 localtime
