How Do I Completely Remove Totem?

I have ubuntu 8.04 and I tried using the following 2 commands in terminal to completely remove Totem without success:

sudo aptitude remove totem

and

sudo aptitude remove --purge totem

Both commands don't remove Totem from my system. I'm still able to load Totem. How can I completely remove Totem?

.

Why not use Add remove programs under the Applications menu or Synaptic under System--> Administration?

Hey, nexus, what's up buddy? Actually, I did go into synaptics and found that totem is unchecked. But, I'm still able to load totem up. Curiously enough, in synaptics, I did see the following related apps converning totem:

totem-common
totem-gstreamer
totem-mozilla
totem-plugins

Considering this, should I go ahead and remove these from my system as a possibility of finally getting rid of totem for good?

Hi, taurusx5, still fine tuning your Ubuntu! :) I think totem-common should do it, the others are just plugins, there's no harm in removing those also.

Just do
Code:

aptitude search '~i' | grep totem

Hey Nexus... Ha ha! I like that... "still fine tuning your ubuntu?" Haha. Yeah, I'm still up to the dirty tricks again I'm afraid. Getting back to totem though, I did as you asked and totem is now forever removed. I'm using vlc which, in my view, is far better than totem. thanks dude!
