Question How do i compile and install a program??

HI GUYS,

I have downloaded some tar.gz file from tucows.
After i unpack the tarball, a whole lot files are there.... like:: Configure,Install,etc....

When i try to install the application using INSTALL file, it works in programs but does not work in others!!

The ReadMe file tells me to first run the Configure file, so that the program can autoconfigure itself. This creates some more files outside the folder>>>

like:: makefile, configure log,etc....
How do i exactly install such Programs???

Like i have tarballs of XMPS,Limewire,etc.....

Please Help!!!

Hi there!

Please read this:

http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...threadid=45094

it will teach you the basics. Remember to always read the "README" file that comes with the programs. A lot of programs install differently, etc.

Good luck!

For LimeWire, there isn't anything much you need to do:

Linux - Open a shell and cd (change directory) to the directory where you downloaded the installer. At the prompt type: sh ./LimeWireLinux.bin

That's direct from their site. After doing that, it should create a folder named "LimeWire", which you can cd into and then do

$ ./runLime.sh

to run it.
