How do i add or remove buttons from the KDE 'start' menu?
Topic says it all. I've tried left clicking the start button and using the menu editor, but it does NOT remove things I delete (apply is grayed out)

Right click on your little Red Hat thingy, or whatever is there:
Menu Editor Select where you want to put the application Click on New Item Give it a name You can put a comment if you want. Put a work path if it needs one. Then Just put in where the application is..e.g. Command: /usr/local/bin/toppler |
I just tried removing an item from my KDE menu, and it works fine. Apply is greyed out, but the item still went away.

what distribution you are running? if it is not kde 3.1.4 then this is a bug in kde guess, i had the same experience. but now i am running slackware 9.1, which has kde 3.1.4 by default and kmenu works like magic ...
...in fact everything seems to WORK on slackware perfectly. :) |

Install Linux from Scratch (http://www.linuxfromscratch.org). It's the best distribution ever if you want to learn a lot about Linux and you want something that's fast, stable and that works. Having said that, if you don't want the compile times, Slackware seems a popular choice. I've never tried it but everyone seems to love it, so who am I to argue?
