How can I sync a Garmin Vivofit with Ubuntu?

I am thinking about buying a garmin vivofit but they don't want to download their connect software.
Is there a way to sync the watch or does anyone know a comparable watch with heart rate that I can use?

From a quick look, it seems the usual sync is with a phone. You can sync that with Linux. But as usual, Garmin thinks Windows and OSX are the only operating systems extant. They're wrong, but that's not new.

I think I am going to go with the fitbit charge hr. It seems to do everything I need and a bit more.
Thanks.

I got the Garmin Vivofit which is paired with my Moto G phone. I sync it and then can check the results on both my phone and by logging in to the Garmin Connect website.
I preferred the Vivofit over the Fitbit as the information is displayed constantly; you cycle through steps, Goal, miles, calories burnt, time/date, heart rate, etc and the batteries last about a year - no overnight charging required!

My

Play Bonny!

Thanks. I will probably also go with the vivofit after reading many reviews and noticing that I can sign in on the garmin connect website on Ubuntu.
