How can I remove pulseaudio and use alsa
 

I've had various problems with pulseaudio - especially with Skype. I do not want to 'fix' pulseaudio. I want to remove it and use alsa instead. Do any of you know how I can do that? I'm running Ubuntu 10.4 on a Dell Inspiron. Thanks so much. RB

Thanks for those. I'd seen these, but the posted date is 2010 and I didn't know if the instructions would be good for a current version - 10.4 or higher.

Can I change the topic somewhat? I asked Skype about the problems I'm having and they said to make sure I have the following installed. How can I know if I do have these installed? I'm guessing an "ls" command somehow?

Make sure that at least the following package-versions are installed:

Qt 4.4.0
D-Bus 1.0.0
libasound2 1.0.18
PulseAudio 0.9.16 (optional)
BlueZ 4.0.0 (optional)

Bummer. I followed the instructions for switching back to ALSA and fouled the whole thing up royally.
How can I get pulseaudio back the way it was before?

By the way - I did google a lot before posting. I didn't find a solution on google, and that is why I posted here. And after following the instructions on google, my system is fouled up.

Can someone please help. Thanks. Seems awfully complicated just to get sound to work right with skype with ubuntu 10.4.

On fedora 20 I could disable pulse by disabling auto spawn in /etc/pulse/client.conf
I guess for newer distros it can help others.
