I have Red Hat Linux 5 on my PC. I downloaded the firefox 2.0 , extracted and overwrited it to /usr/bin/firefox which had firefox 1.5 But now I am unable to open the webbrowser. It says no browser found. How can I recover my firefox again? Somebody help me please bcoz I am not able to work well with Links browser. Regards, Mahesh Bhat |
Well you can't recover overwritten files, at least as easily as you can just reinstall the old Firefox. Just obtain the .rpm for your RH5 (do you mean RedHat Enterprise Linux or what? Because "RedHat 5" is very very old) and double-click on it to install.
On a distribution like RedHat that has a rpm-based package manager you are supposed to install/upgrade software, if possible, using your package manager or by downloading suitable .rpm packages and installing them. You can of course download software in a .tar.gz for example, extract it and so on, but it messes up the package management system, or at least makes it more difficult to keep software up-to-date easily. |
