How can I print a scanned image?

I'm using Ubuntu 9.04 on a MacBook 2.1 hooked up to a Epson Perfection 1260 scanner and a Epson 830 Photo Stylus printer.
I have been trying to scan a simple one-page document and then print that document to paper (the document is handwritten).
However, in spite of saving the scanned image in a variety of file types (.jpeg, .png, ,pdf, .ps, .tif, .pnm), in no case would any of these files print for me.
Can anybody suggest how I might resolve this?
Thanks

Well, you don't say what software you tried to print with. I've printed lots of images over the years through Gimp, PDF's through the Acrobat Reader (either KPDF or the one from Adobe), and have even pulled the image up in Firefox or Konqueror, and printed from there.

What errors do you get?? You just say they won't print....does ANYTHING print?

Yes, thanks for the reply.
I was using Gimp, F_Spot, Gnome Image Viewer and Adobe Reader as appropriate.
However, it seems my problem was that I was scanning in Gray mode and had selected the Slide media type.
When I changed these respectively to Color and Full Color Range, the files (well, I only tried the .tiff file) printed perfectly from the Gnome Image Viewer.
