how can i play mp3 files in red hat linux 9 using xmms player?
 
i have installed red hat 9 on an intel machine. i m having trouble playing mp3 files using xmms player. the sound card worked properly when i installed linux. it gives beeps and knocks but no audio of music. how do i solve this problem?

If I remember correctly, RH9 disabled mp3 support due to licensing issues with mp3's. You could try a 3rd party application and see if that helps

You must install xmms-mp3 to be able to play mp3's through it

is what you want.

then, as root...

rpm -ivh xmms-mp3-1.2.7-21.p.fr1.i386.rpm

and cross fingers.

Another alternative is if you have apt-get installed...


apt-get install xmms-mp3
