Realplayer is probably the most encumbered of all formats. Which is a shame because one of my favorite websites is full of audio files in real format.
It's also very much on the wane. NPR shows, for example, used to be in Real formats (I"m going back about 15 years here) but no more.
Realplayer stopped supporting a Linux player (a spin of the now-defunct Helix project) about four or five years ago.
Unless you can get an old version of Realplayer for Linux and make it work, you probably are out of luck. You might find something at http://rpm.pbone.net/. If you are using a 64-bit processor, you may still be out of luck; I don't think there was ever a 64-bit version. If you are running Slackware, rpm2tgz is your friend.
The page comes up blank for me, as well. The only suggestion I can offer is to see if using Realplayer 11 GOLD works. You can find it here, although I'm not sure if any of the file formats offered will work in Slackware. If you get it installed, you might need to uninstall the previous versions you mentioned.
RealPlayer 11 Gold is the last version I had and, to the best of my knowledge, the last Linux version, but I only had the 32-bit version.
I just checked (locate is a wonderful tool); apparently I still have it in *.deb and *.rpm. If anyone wants it, let me know and I'll make it available.
The page with the link to that URI is http://www.npr.org/templates/story/s...toryId=1113089 Possibly the RAM it points to no longer exists. I made a mistake in my first message: while I have RP8, I also have 10.0.9.809, perhaps the most recent (but still 9 years old). If I can actually download a Realmedia file I can usually listen to it.

Hi...
I don't think you can, there's a "no (re)distribution" clause in the EULA.

Reason: Added information.
I'm honored to meet someone who actually reads EULAs. I tip my hat.
Thank you, sir, praise be to God for it! There was a time (before I came to the Lord) when I didn't care one bit about EULA's and never read them myself. Today, to respect others, I read EULA's (usually by skimming or focusing in on certain details) to know what is expected and required on my part and if I don't agree to the terms, I don't install the software.

Hi...
So if you click on one of the blue buttons on the page that says "Listen," what happens? Any error messages?
As a footnote, it's not that I don't care about EULAs.
I had no real idea how you felt about them other than you probably didn't read them. I wrote the section you quoted with my own past behavior in mind.

Even the worst EULA in the world doesn't even begin to compare with the true reality of hell. But I fully agree with you that many of the EULA's out there are needlessly difficult.

Reason: Changed wording.
I read RP's LICENSE: it limits redistribution. But they haven't busted rpmbone. Since my version of RP is newer than this file, it should work. I think it has disappeared.
NPR finally responded to my query. They don't keep archives before 2004. They referred me to the Library of Congress and U Maryland's library. I await answers to my queries to them.
