How can I make multiseat work on my system?

I am trying to make multiseat work on my system. (By which I mean I have two keyboards, mice, and monitors, that will act like two separate workstations.

Hardware-wise I have a GeForce 210, which has multiple monitor outputs. Keyboards are one PS/2, one USB, mice are both USB. My distro is Kubuntu 10.04.

I have dual screens with a single user working fine, but nothing I've tried for multiseat has worked.

https://help.ubuntu.com/community/MultiseatX - first seat works fine, nothing on second seat
Xephyr, as discussed here http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=620003 - I can't make KDE start in the Xephyr window, it gives dbus errors, and in any case I'm not sure how to get the keyboards and mice set correctly
http://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/Multiterminal_with_Xephyr - download links are duds
http://www.userful.com/ - no support for 32-bit Ubuntu 10.04, livecd hung booting
http://friendlyseats.com/ - segfaults

So far I've only tried using the Nvidia card. There is the motherboard's onboard graphics, which are ATI, but I've never before been able to get that working together with the Nvidia card in any sense.

It seems that nothing I read online quite matches my setup. Running multiple seats off one graphics card is different to running them off different graphics cards, stuff is different for GDM and for KDM, etc.

Has anyone been able to get multiseat working with a similar setup to mine? Ie Kubuntu 10.04, KDM, multiple seats off one graphics card.

Hi cantab,

since there's been no reply yet, and I know from my own experience that information (which works!) on this topic is scarce, I figured another link wouldn;t hurt:

http://blog.chris.tylers.info/index....11R6.97.0.html

It's pretty old, and if I remember right this link used to go to an even older page, so it looks like it's been updated in some way even though it still says 2005 on it.

Usually, articles about multi-seat with X tell you that you need/want one video card PER seat. They also generally imply that you'll need one X instance PER seat. At a quick scan, this article doesn't seem to mention number of video cards, but it does imply multiple X instances.. It goes into some small detail of command line args for starting X, and some configuration options for xorg.conf.

It's not much, but maybe it'll help some. Good luck - I'd like to hear about a setup like this actually working, without the involvement of things like "Friendly Seat" and friends.
