how can i install gcc glibc etc.

hey i use linux rehat 7.3 vallhala release.i wanted to install xmms plugin for wma it said it requires glibc of specific version which isnt avilable . similarly tired to install mplayer it said the version of gcc is not supported . and various other installation were unsuccessful .

then i also tried to install glibc using rpm and i have a bit of idea that it is bit troublesome and needs various other packages to be downloaded to accompany it . please clearly guide what all "rpm packages" i need to download and install and if possible plz give the link along for download. by the way my machine is p3(i686). thanking u in advance.

Hello!

You can download apt-get for RedHat 7.3 and try setting it up. Maybe you want to install Synaptic too. It is a GUI for apt-get.

Set in your apt sources at least:
http://ftp.freshrpms.net/pub/freshrpms/redhat/7.3/
http://apt.sw.be/redhat/7.3/en/i386/dag/
http://atrpms.net/dist/rh7.3/

Try installing with:
Code:
apt-get install mplayer
It will autoamatically install it, and take care for dependencies.

An alternative to apt-get is yum. You can try it out. It takes care for dependencies too.

If you really want to install all RPMs by yourself, try searching for them on:
http://rpm.pbone.net/
http://rpmfind.net/linux/RPM/

Good luck!
