There might be several ways, but here's a start:
1) visit
http://www.sane-project.org/cgi-bin/driver.pl and use the Search form to see if your scanner model is supported by SANE
2) if yes, read more about SANE (the docs), install it if you don't already have it, and if needed (I did), follow SANE's instructions to install a Windows driver to get your scanner going
3) if it's not supported by SANE, use Google to find out if anybody has it working and so on..
I myself installed an Agfa ScanWise1212u usb scanner some years ago. It first seemed like a horrible thing to do, but after all it was this easy: 1) install SANE (very easy), 2) install the scanner's driver to Windows and then copy a certain file out of the installation, 3) place that file in Linux and 4) edit one config file to point the driver file to SANE - then I just put it on and it worked. But, as I said, you will want to find out if SANE supports it and then read the documenation about installing it.
