What file did you download from ibm.com?
Doing a search on your notebooks support homepage
for Linux didn't come up with a modem driver ...

However, there IS some support for the mwave modems
here ...

http://oss.software.ibm.com/acpmodem/

If this is what you got, could you please tell us
what exactly "but I can't install it" means? What
kind of error messages are you getting?

Cheers,
Tink

I'd recommend following the steps in the readme that you posted...

uncompress (which apparently worked) and then go recompile your
kernel (or that's what make install will do, rather) ... hope your Linux
kernel sources actually live in /usr/src/linux

http://www.tldp.org/HOWTO/Kernel-HOWTO.html if something isn't
working right.

HIH...

Cheers,
Tink
