How can I get a Mac VM on my Linux box?

How can I get a Mac VM on my Linux box?

Ideally with VMware.

Would I need the VMware player or VMware workstation?

How do I get a Mac OS X image?

TIA!

I fear that you will not be able to get one legitimately.

Apple doesn't dig that scene, man. They want their stuff to run only on their over-priced hardware.

Do a web search for more.

BTDT.

Yes and/or Yes ... depending on if you want the extras available in Workstation or simply want to run it.

Piracy

As frankbell's stated ... search (e.g. google) ... I know they're out there, I've seen them.

I illegally downloaded a vm and ran it. Then I figured there was not one thing I could do with it and deleted it. Looked pretty.

I do a little volunteer stuff that involves using a Mac. It was kind of fun actually getting to explore one. Nothing about it enticed me to even remotely consider springing for one.

If all you're after is the "Look pretty" part, but you still want to actually have something which "works" ... it's not that difficult to get your Linux looking just as "pretty" as OSX:

At least that's not illegal.

There used to be a Pear OS (note Apples and Pears ), which is simply a Linux with a desktop pre-configured to look like OSX. Though there's "speculation" that Apple might have actually killed it off: http://www.itworld.com/open-source/4...-death-pear-os

Pear OS was a great ersatz Mac OS, probably the most accurate I've seen. Frankly it made Mac OS look a bit weak, but then again imho so does Gnome 3.x

Pretty is a nice feature, but the cost is just too great. If I want pretty, I just run Gnome 3 for a while, and then I get bored with pretty and go back to my customized desktop environments the way I have set them up (which are pretty to me, anyway, but I would guess not so hot to the mass market).

+1 ... sorry I'm told post is "too short" ... same reason I like KDE more ... due to the customizability. I might be in a minority, but c'est la vie.

VirtualBox has an option to run that, but I have never tried.

The point was that it is an illegal task and we as in LQ members shouldn't provide info on such tasks.

For me, I wouldn't even want OSX ... even if it wasn't illegal. So due to its cost (i.e. overpriced inferior hardware tied to the OS, or fine/jail when caught pirating) I want it even less. And having tested it at a friend's, I can't see any use (to me) over having a legitimate Linux running on the most awesome hardware I can afford.
