How can I force WINE to output audio through s/pdif?

When I try to run Borderlands 1 through WINE it always attempts to use HDMI/Displayport for audio. My monitor doesn't have any speakers so that won't work obviously, I have tried using WINE config with the same results, I have tried to get WINE to use PulseAudio but when I do it looks like Pulse switches to "Analogue Stereo Output" when the game starts, does anybody have any idea how to fix this? (also while in WINE config using the sound test everything is fine before I start the game)

Pulseaudio bosses alsa around, iirc.

As you don't have speakers on hdmi, you're bound to be able to redirect hdmi audio output through a config file in pulse or alsa. I did it the other way in 2015, getting sound onto hdmi. But I found that what's sauce for the goose isn't necessarily sauce for the gander in hdmi audio. HDMI audio is different, and hdmi sounded like squarewaves(!) until I resampled it.

I've already fixed it now, I had to manually disable each HDMI port in PulseAudio to make it output through spidif, I don't have a problem with doing this as like I said I don't have speakers on my monitor so I shouldn't need it anytime soon.
