How can I configure my workstation to log on to a domain on a server?

I have a server runningon SuSE Linux Enterprise 9 and a workstation running with SuSE 10, I'm new to linux and i want to log on to the workstation that will be authenticated by the server? I think LDAP would be the answer but I can't figure it out how to use it? I really need help. The output would be a user logging in to a workstation, the username would be verified to the server and if verified, it would log on.. How does this work on a Linux machine?

It's called NIS authentication. Your user accounts will be managed on one central computer (NIS server). When you log onto a workstation, the workstation retrieves the account information from the NIS server and verifies or rejects your authentication. Is that what you want to do?
