How can I backup my entire system?

Hi Folks,

I spent the weekend getting my new Suse 9 machine up and running and its now just how I want it. It would seem like a good idea to do some backups at this point. A friend of mine metioned that I could use the dump to create backup of my entire system and if need ever be, restore from it quite easily.

I've had a google and had alook in a couple of books but I cant find anything too helpful, or that I understand!

Does anybody do this? Could they lend me a hand?

Thanks

Have you tried using webmin? This has a funtion for Filesystem backups... (Not 100% of how to do it thru CLI)

Hope that helps...

Hm...if you want to be able to restore it from scratch to exactly as it is now, what you could do is make an image of your hard drive, so that you can just replace a fscked up system with the image. There are many ways to do this, mostly depending on where you're storing the image, but a bootable distro will help you with your imaging / replacement.

Cheers guys, I'll have a look on my disks and see how to create an image of the system.

Hmmm excuse my ignorance, I was only think of how you could do it within the Linux box... Try using Symantec Ghost, it's very good and easy to use.
