How can I access older packages like VLC 2.0.2?

I've tried downloading several tarballs from older packages, but none of them configure correctly. Too frustrated to take on that second occupation, so I'd just like to apt-get 2.0.2 if possible. But is it? I'm on Precise, which gets 2.0.3.

By the way, if you're thinking of using VLC as your media server with an Android remote, hang yourself now...you'll thank me somewhere in the afterlife. Sadly, XBMC and derivatives were worse.

I don't get it. What is wrong with sudo apt-get install vlc* ?

What distro are you on and what is if any the native software management?
