hostname problem

im using gentoo
i modofied /etc/hosts localhost hector

and when i bott my system it says set /etc/hosts to a valid hostname no matter what host name i use it still says this

What do you get from running the "hostname" command?

Make sure that is in your hosts file.

i can change the hostname with the hostname command
but i still get the error invalid hostname at startup
