Hostname

Where is the system's hostname set during startup?

There is a control panel I use which is particular about the hostname of the box, but im not sure where to tweak it during startup. I know how to manually do it (which I have to do)

Thanks

Note that changing the entry in /etc/hosts won't change the hostname, it'll only change what the ip address reverse lookups to. The hostname is typically set using the 'hostname' command somehwere at boot time. Exactly where this is set will depend on which distro you are using.

cheers
