I want dedicate RAM to a particular program. I have 4GB of RAM. What I want to do is than when the pc boots up, it (ubuntu)should only see the 1GB and the remaining 3GB is visible to the program. (I guess I need to do something with the config file but I am not sure).

Also this should be a separate profile so that I can also select a normal setup (All 4 GB). I use Ubuntu 10-04.

Your program runs UNDER Ubuntu, and there is no way to demarcate how much the OS should use, and how much programs should get. The OS uses as much as is needed by it to function (i.e. code for all syscalls), and the rest is left for programs.

If you find a way, I'll eat my left toe.
