Hide items from Gnome2 taskbar possible?

Hi!

Is there a way to hide tasks from the tasklist? I run a root-tail like program called paralogger to keep an eye on /var/log/messages and /var/log/secure and it rocks (apart from having to input the root pwd twice every logon) but they show up on the taskbar and that kinda sucks...

Any help appreciated!

I've often wondered this as well.

The only thing i can think of is run it before gnome loads. Get a text editor and create a file in your home directory called .xinitrc and place something like the following in it
Code:
#!/bin/bash
exec paralogger &
exec gnome-session
Then save the file and do

Code:
chmod 755 ~/.xinitrc
Hey if it doesnt work i was just taking a guess!

Unhappy what about root ?

Well, the hard part is that paralogger is just a wrapper to create complicated (cool) Eterm windows with no decors and all... I can just run the Eterm command line (paralogger dumps it) but the Eterm windows run a "tail" command on /var/log/messages and /var/log/secure, which needs a root password to work. Is there any way to pass the root authentication automagically ? If you want to, I can dump the command line.

Thanks!
