Heroes iii on linux
I wanted to play my favorite old Windows game on Linux, so I downloaded two versions: the Windows versions and the Linux version. When i try to run the setup.sh file on the Linux version i get the following:
Code:
This installation doesn't support glibc-2.1 on x86_64 Anyway, I used Wine to try and run the Windows version. I've never used Wine before, but my understanding is that I should be able to click on a .exe and watch it fly. This works for certain smaller functions such as the map generator, but when I go for the main event (Heroes3.exe) Wine tries for a few seconds and then quietly dies. Can anybody tell me what I'm doing wrong? |
Try:
linux32 ./setup.sh |
Have you installed multilib packages from AlienBOB?

/usr/local/games/Heroes3/heroes3 should do it (from terminal command line)
The README file /usr/local/games/Heroes3/README should tell you all you need to know -- maybe. |

Hmmm... sound issues aside, the Linux version is lacking a LOT of features compared to the Windows version. Can anyone help me troubleshoot the Wine issue?
|
I suspect you need 32-bit emulation packages for the sound, but I have no experience in that area. Nor can I help with WINE.
Anyone else? |
For the sound problem: it is link with ALSA and OSS.
Heroes3 uses OSS for the sound but OSS is a old sound device and is depreciate now (ALSA remplaced it). I need to install the "alsa-oss" package (I am under Archlinux, I don't know the name for other distrib'). Then you need to start 2 deamons : - snd-pcm-oss - snd-seq-oss I do it with "sudo modprobe <deamon>". I don't know how to do with other distrib'. Hope it could help anyone, I looked for this answer for a long time... Ps : I know it's a old topic, but the problem/answer still works. |
