heretic 2 for linux install problems
anyone got heretic 2 for linux, anyone notice that it doesnt work?
this is pissing me off, i just bought it off amazon and when i install it says it cannot find a file in a certain directory, which is located in a folder within the folder its looking for example its looking for "heretic2" one of the files that's supposed to go in the /bin directory, i dont know the file type. anyway... it's looking for heretic2 on the cd in some folder say /mnt/cdrom/x11/heretic2 and the file is in /mnt/cdrom/x11/heretic2/glx/ not exact folders, cant remember. the install goe thruogh none the less, i type heretic2 nothing happens, so i try copying the file to /bin and some other directory like /usr/local/sbin or something, where it's supposed to be located. so i type heretic2 and nothing happens, any ideas? |

Just curious are u trying to install from a cdrom/burner or just a cdrom?

burner. i had pretty much given up on that game (15 bucks down the drain) but maybe i'll start trying again to get that game to work.
also, i have a dvd rom drive, i could try installing from that if you beleive the burner to be the problem (my specs below) |
i found this "Commercial game companies like Loki release patches for their games. Often a game will have MANY patches (Myth2) and some games are unplayable without them (Heretic2). Check the game's website for patches whether you have a problem running the game or not; there may be an update for a security problem that you may not even be aware of".
and i think we must get the heretic2 patch |
this is where i found a patch supposedly the first one.

I cannot get the patch to run all the way. Says the executable isn't there. Going to look for more.

I bought heretic 2 for linux recently and had the same install problems as well. I figured out what was wrong with my copy. The install script looks for a file titled "heretic2" in a certain directory on the cdrom, but the file is actually in a subdirectory of that folder.
After I had copied the file to /usr/local/bin (where the script was trying to install it), I found another problem. The file "heretic2" (which is the executable for the game) looks for the game's files in the directory the file "heretic2" is put in. To correct this I just moved "heretic2" to the main directory all the other files get installed to. If your cd is like mine you could just do the following from a command prompt: cp /[mount location]/bin/x86/glibc-2.1/heretic2 /usr/local/games/heretic2 To run it, you may have to cd to /usr/local/games/heretic2, or else create a link to the file. Happy gaming :) hGuard |
To run the file from a command prompt type:
./heretic2 |
update
I figured this out by myself, but now I'm stuck trying to update heretic.
It seems they've somehow updated the executable, and now loki_patch complains that the wrong version of the old executable is installed. |
