Ubuntu 20 is using a different driver version complied specifically for its kernel version. I can not tell if it a driver problem.
Are there any interesting dmesg messages when you plug the device in?

Hmm, doesn't a CP210X show up as ttyACM?
Anyone?
Edit: checked and it can be ttyUSB
Seems as if the device is not working on that distro

CP210 is only USB to serial converter, I have one built into my z-wave controller which is a USB stick.
