Question Help with Gnome

Hi all, first off no offense to KDE fans but i personally feal better in Gnome, well yea my problem is that i recently updated gnome but wasn't really getting the hole source idea so i found a rpm contaning the bare necessities to upgrade to v. 2.6 it wouldn't work in gnome so i got off and went into fail safe got root and it worked fine... but im trying to switch to gtk+2, for Gpanel 2.6. When i try running rpm for gtk2 it says i need certain files.. so i get them and then it will say i need others or i need a older or newer version of mine and i have the most needed ones and yet still they basicly send me in a semi endless loop of packages that dont do anyting or i already have but another package says i dont... can any one help me?
