help with games

so...
i'm brand new to Mandrake 8.2 and Linux. I really don't have much of a clue what i'm doing, but i'm finding my way. my problem is a bunch of the games that came with my distro don't work. when i click to launch them it loads for a bit then stops and disappears. two of these include tuxracer and flightgear. it seems as though i need to install something, but i'm not sure what or how. for flightgear i need to download the textures and some other file. one i got loaded into the flightgear folders, but one won't let me. i really don't know what i'm doing...pleeeease pleeease help me.

Try running these same games from the console (text mode) and see what the error messages are. If you run them from the menu the error messages will not show up.

Sounds like you don't have 3D accelleration/OpenGL working. If so, you need Mesa, or hopefully, you have an nvidia card and just need to install the nvidia drivers.

well well

i was able to run tuxracer with the run prompt, but i haven't tried the others...does that mean maybe the "shortcut" (windows term, ha) on the desktop isn't working?
