Help to Ubuntu 8.10.

Hey.

After using Debian for a while, I now switched back to Ubuntu, because there are some things about Debian, I do not like.

But this thread is about Powernowd and update of Java 6 Update 10

I have finally been Powernowd to select "Performance" at boot. But Ubuntu will not close properly if Powernowd not set to "Ondemand". How do I get Ubuntu to close properly, without having to choose Ondemand every time?

I got Powernowd to choose Performance at boot by editing the "powernowd" in "etc/init.d". If it can help...

Now to Java. I installed "Ubuntu restricted extras" through the Add/Remove. Flash version is up to date, but Java 6 Update 10, as installed, is outdated.

I would therefore like to have it updated to Update 12, but it can be done via the Terminal, and how?

I would stick with the version in the repos (see link)
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.p...ava6+update+12

But if not you should be able to download java from Sun's website.

As for cpu frequency scaling here is another thread you should find more helpful.

I have bad experiences with removing Powernowd. Then the laptop not close properly no matter what I do...
