Help! software install menu disappeared.. i unistall dozen of files assoc w/ glib/gtk

i was planning to install gtk 2.4/glib and so proceeded to uninstall gtk/lib 2.3 or something. when i clicked on those files, it also uninstalled like two dozen other files which i don't remmber. i'm using mdk10. now i'm not sure what to do to reinstall those files since the menus for install software has disappeared from the Configuration menu of the system. does this require reinstallation of linux? i can boot in kde fine, and even post this mesage, but the software installation menu is ogne.

===when i try to compile gtk2.4===
checking for a BSD-compatible install... /usr/bin/install -c
checking whether build environment is sane... yes
checking for gawk... gawk
checking whether make sets $(MAKE)... yes
checking build system type... i686-pc-linux-gnu
checking host system type... i686-pc-linux-gnu
checking for native Win32... no
checking for gcc... no
checking for cc... no
checking for cc... no
checking for cl... no
configure: error: no acceptable C compiler found in $PATH
See `config.log' for more details.

i've still got the 3 mdk cd's and was wonder if there was a command to reinstall the missing stuff w/o deleting everything. thanks.

p.s. clicking on rpm's don't even initiate installation process. what's going on? it kist brings up a screen asking for an application to select...when before, it'd automatically install the program.

Try running rpmdrake if software installation gui installed this should launch it. If not search for rpmdrake rpm on one of the discs (i'd presume) and install. packagemight not be called rpmdrake (i'm not running mandrake so i can't check) so look for other liekly looking packages.

have you mounted the drive??? open a terminal and type mount /dev/cd. If you use GNOME right-click on the dsktop then disks=>CD I donj't know how it works in KDE but I imagine something similar.
