Help please! FC2 audio fubar

Everything was working perfectly and then I downloaded mplayer and a bunch of codecs and xmms updates, etc. Now all audio files play nothing but a buzzy sound (like what you get when you put a mobile phone near a speaker!). Is there anyway to just reinstall all audio support or something?

This has been bugging me for ages now, so any help HUGELY appreciated.

Thank you!

Peter

aumix

Could it be that somehow the mic setting got turned up and you're getting feedback?

You could check your audio settings by entering "aumix" at the command line...use arrow keys to alter...

Wish it was that simple! No, all inputs are muted. I don't hear any of the original sound at all - just clicks and buzzes which leads me to beleive that the codecs are wrong or something... So frustrating. anyone have any other ideas?
