help on installing grub on mbr

I have internal hard drive which contain window xp and I also have a mp3 player that has 40GB and I had resize it to 10 GB and made a 27 GB new Linux partition but when it boot the grub gives me error it can't detect window nor Linux

I like to install grub on the mbr not on my mp3 player because I am the only one who use Linux and I take the mp3 player with me.

maybe I need to do something with the kernel probe usb mod in the beginning

Please help

Grub doesn't detect anything. It reads from /boot/grub/menu.lst, so be more specific. Get a live cd like slax (slax.org) and edit the menu.lst file to add windows and linux..

Does this have something to do with the original question? If so, what?

In the first post, I am confused........
Do you have Linux installed? If so, can you get into it?
Is the MP3 player a separate piece of hardware or is it a program?
What would it mean to install grub on the MP3 player???

GRUB is used for dual-booting two or more operating systems---is that what you want to do?

Let me clear this up, first of I have install Ubuntu on the mp3 player, the mp3 player has 40 gb hard drive plus it's a music player. On my dell desktop I have 60 gb hard drive that contain window. so I need grub to boot into Linux or window

on the mp3 player I had made partition fat32, ext3 and the swap. I connect my window desktop to my formated linux mp3 player and the computer and my mp3 player connect via usb. The main problem is grub it can't detect my window nor Linux

I think the problem is that I need to load usb kernel mod when the linux start

it very simple I want to boot Linux by my usb mp3 player on my desktop which contain window.

OK--you have Linux running on the MP3 player...How do you interact with it? Are you somehow using the desktop computer as a terminal?
Where is grub installed?--on the desktop or on the MP3 player?

I am not going to be the person who solves this, but I do want to help you convey all the info that someone is going to need.

Thanks for helping, I use USB cable to connect my mp3 player to my desktop. Once i use grub on the desktop (MBR) but i remove it because it can't load window nor Linux. I think i know why I am having this problem because of the kernel, as you look at my post # 3 I need to load the usb mod for the kernel to detect is my usb mp3 player
