Help on accessing an active program on another terminal
Hey guys. I have a problem. I was logged in on my Ubuntu system remotely via PuTTY. I had a program running, and went out to dinner, leaving it running. When I came back an hour later, My PuTTY Terminal had lost it's connection to my system. I figured I could just restart the connection and get back to it, but I can't as it puts me to PTS/2, where my program is running on PTS/1. I can see it actively working still, but it's on another terminal, and can't get to it at all. Is there a way to somehow open a terminal to PTS/1 instead? Thanks in advanced.

Not that I know of.
You can kill it.
However, there is a program called screen (another of those easy to google names ;-) ), which allows you to connect in, detach, reconnect, etc. It runs on the machine you are connecting to. So you would still use putty. I have known about it for a few years, but haven't actually used it. I forget now where it lives.
Ah, I just tried google, the magic trick was to search "screen detached sessions" -- that brings up several useful links right at the top including a linux journal article. From the google search results, it appears to be gnu screen.
Yeah I know about Screen, but I just didn't happen to remember it when I ran the program. Ya know, cause it'd be the only thing I'm working on at the moment. I did wind up killing the program and starting over, but it's ok, no loss or anything.
